ProjectEditorial
Website
Mold magazine was born in the age where blogs ran rampant across the internet. After a decade of content production, it was clear that their slice of the internet had evolved into a deep editorial website. We needed to update the visual language for the site to reflect the maturity of the content and match the newly printed magazine counterpart.
For this, we built out a mix-and-match approach to the template modules used for the articles. The underlying grid system allows for a wide range of presentation styles.
The site required a vast range of themes – from artist profiles, to long form essays, to global events, and more forms the brand was growing into. Since most images were from 3rd parties, we needed flexible containers to properly present an array of shapes and size possibilities.
It was important that the site performed and responded well on mobile devices as a large portion of Mold’s user base comes from social media channels. We wanted to keep the spirit of the pages intact while also providing a clear vertical reading experience.

Design
Modules
We developed a grid system that had more options than we even planned for. Each module is built to fit within the flexible column system. Each variation allows the Mold editors to design a block around what type of content they have (vs. designing content to predefined blocks.) This freedom allows for a freeing exploration of unique layouts.
ProjectField
Meridians
Field Meridians is a sister project born to the same creators – an artist collective committed to strengthening local food ecologies in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The first project is called FM Nature School and is devoted to organizing workshops from local artists.
The site’s main colors are powered by a weather API pulling in real-time data from Crown Heights. Each event generates a random layout with an animated form inspired by Ruth Aiko Asawa.
